I do not own the rights to this video! They belong to Dreamworks Animation.
My dad or older brother had a few of the old albums, I wish I knew what happened to them, would be great to listen to them on the turn table again. Glad I still have some of my George Carlin albums yet.
just love these guys
Gosh I didn’t think so many people love this song thank you all so much I appreciate your comments I also think it’s a great song thank you all so much again xxxxxxx❤❤❤❤❤
i am so late to this, but this movie absolutely entranced me as a child. i’m not the most religious person, this movie was always about two brothers who’s differences in their views in the world tore them apart. it always made me upset me how moses never wanted to hurt the person he knew as his brother. how he still had to hurt him and his people because his god wished for him to do so. i wish this movie got the recognition it deserved.
They are so great!!! Funny & musically talented!! I miss that time too!
Pretty good singers when they quit yucking it up.
Best version of Mariah I’ve heard
This movie is a freakiing masterpiece""" I SEND MY SCOURGE I SEND MY SWORD...heavy AF
I'm no longer a Christian but I still love this movie. It wasn't really about the life of Moses so much as it was about Destiny and choosing your own path Moses who is raised as a prince with all the luxuries of the world thrust out into the desert in order to become a leader for his people while his brother Ramsay is constantly being hounded on by his father about responsibilities and weak links in the chain and whatnot
LOvely!
Their musicianship alone makes them star quality. Their voices alone make them star quality. And funny on top of all that. A gift to comedy, to folk, to Americana culture. Hearing them is just one of those rare treats life throws us every once in a while.
Dick's voice on here was smooth as butter...
(What happened to them ? I hear nothing of them anymore. Are they still alive? I sure hope so.
Beautiful
I loved hearing them sing, and I loved their come
When they weren't being comedic, their harmony was stunning. I really enjoyed their show. Damn the CBS censors!
Comedy is really hard. I was young when they were on TV. I never thought Tommy was talented because he was always cracking jokes. Of course, I was completely wrong.
They sound great! This is no Dutch song, it's from a Lerner & Loewe musical. They were such jokers.
I worked in Oregon with Tommy’s son … one of the most mild manner person I have ever met …
I love their voices! On this song Dick's is smooth like melted butter.
No better than these two
They were ahead of their time. They were critical of politics and sympathetic to the emerging counterculture. We would love them today, but CBS fired them for it in 1969.
Wish we had quality TV like this today instead of the garage that is being pushed on us.
Their show was so pure.
They came to my town! I elected not to see them; but I regret it to this day! I loved these guys- so original and skilled!
beautiful voices
Someone tipped me off to this one. The term "Mechaya" is a yiddish expression meaning "a great relief" as when a cool breeze blows on you on a very hot day. The song is not a folk song as these two think but it was from a mostly forgotten Broadway show called "Paint Your Wagon" written by two Jews Lerner and Lowe. It is not Dutch and their droll explanation only makes them look silly. They had many writers on this show including Dick Cavett and Steve Martin which might explain the unfunny texture of the material.
They finished a song????
The people in Holland were praying with this folk song. In the Old Testament, the land of Moriah in Israel was the location where God provided a ram caught in the bushes as Abraham’s faith was tested when he was asked to sacrifice his son, Isaac. God is the God who provides all that we need in his timing and his way. When Hollanders struggling they could sing their love song to the God who faithfully provided for them.
I'm not sure where they came up with that bit about it being a Dutch folk song. It was actually written in the 20th century for the musical "Paint Your Wagon". en.wikipedia.org/wiki/They_Call_the_Wind_Maria
What a fabulous clip! I loved watching these guys on Sunday night too!!
What a great piece!!
Totally awesome
I remember the mountains of Holland well.😱🤪😂
gods if not for the inet i'd never have found this.. i can only weep for kids today.. may not be their tastes (honestly not mine either).. but such a well done song...
They were terrific. Still amazed their TV show was cancelled because of their anti-VietNam war stance, comments.
My favorite version of this song has always been from the 1969 movie “Paint Your Wagon”, sung by Harve Presnell. But, after hearing The Smothers Brothers version, the version in “Wagon” is now my second favorite version. 😉
Just awesome !!!!!!
Harve Presnell did a moving rendition of this song in the movie 'paint your wagon.'
Beautiful, heavenly.
Moriah Conquering Wind is another name for the Illuminati.
at 1:24 tommy's got different color eyes
The song's actually by Lerner and Loewe, who wrote it for the Broadway musical and movie "Paint Your Wagon". :-)
My favorite Eastwood movie… love his simple, honest and unaffected gravelly singing and speaking voice. Also, one of my favorite Lee Marvin movies… natural comic ability that never disappoints and wonderful, clear basso singing voice.
Loved watching their show when I was growing up 👏🏻👩🏻🏫🥰‼️
Other posters have correctly described the Broadway origin of this song. But its title is not "Mariah." The name of the song is *"They Call the Wind Maria."* No "h." In the English-speaking world the name Maria was long pronounced with a long i sound until that changed due to influence from Italian and Spanish.
Great comedy and great singing, a fabulous duo. I have an album from back in those days.
Mom liked you best...
